A suspected Korean swindler who was able to defraud 13 other Korean nationals of some P8.4 million was arrested by local police last Monday after officials of the South Korean Embassy had sought their help. Chief Inspector Mauro Mallari identified the suspect as one Peter Kim, also known as Young Jun Kim, of legal age, with postal address at 513 MV Delos Santos, Sampaloc, Manila, and currently residing at Vista Verde Resort in Barangay Pulung Maragul in this city. South Korean Embassy Consul Yong Jeng Park and his deputies accompanied the 13 Koreans to the Police Station 3 here for the questioning of Peter Kim, who had been using websites to recruit Korean directors, actors and staff for his “SP Film and Acting Center”, which he claims to have offices in the Philippines, Hong Kong and the Untied States. The complainants, who were also staying at Vista Verde Resort here, included Kim Hyoung Geun, Park Soo Jeong, Kim Cheong Soon, Lee Joo Hee, Yoon Sae Min, Song Hee Lee, Lee Ye Ji, So Yeon Kim, Yong Sik Choe, Kang Eun Gu, Nam Seung Woo, Jeon Jee Sung and Um Ki Jin. Since May this year, the victims each gave P100,000 to Peter Kim for processing their Philippine and US working visas. He also asked them to borrow money from banks from Korea to help finance his bogus company’s resort and building projects in the Philippines with the promise of paying them back. One of the complainants said in an affidavit to the police that they were afraid of Peter Kim because the latter once showed them a gun and told them that he will not hesitate to shoot anybody who would make trouble. Tired of Peter Kim’s empty promises of paying what he owed them and bringing them to the United States to work for his film company’s office there, the Koreans searched the Internet for Korean swindlers and found a blog that showed him included in the list and photos of Korean swindlers. They then decided to seek the help of the Korean Embassy to recover their money. The police have filed charges of falsification of public document and using of fictitious name against the suspect after they found two Philippine driver’s licenses from him bearing different names but with the same photo. Peter Kim was not able to show his passport and immigration documents to the police.
